TEAM MANAGER DUTIES
CONTACT TEAM
Contact your team and coach as soon as possible to advise day and date of first training night and time, don’t leave it until the last minute!
FIND YOUR FIXTURE AND GAME DETAILS
The fixtures are found on PlayHQ, but you can access this through the Fixtures and Seasons Dates menu and it will only list Kangas teams
- Select the competition (Monday - Friday or Saturday) and season then
- Select your age group then
- Select your team
Your game details should now be displayed - notify your team. Always check game details the day before as late changes do occur.
ORGANIZE TRAINING SUPERVISION
It is part of our contract with training venues that a responsible adult must be present at each training session and that the hall is left in good condition. It is therefore essential to roster a parent on duty for each night. Access to the stadium is limited to club members engaged in training. Please have your duty parent ensure that no unauthorized persons are present and to position themselves where they can see the stadium entrance. If parents wish to use chairs while waiting they must be replaced after use and on no account should be dragged across the floor of hall. No smoking in the stadium or toilets.
In particular please keep all children off other equipment.
TRAINING VENUE - ENSURE HALL IS OCCUPIED OR LOCKED
When training is completed, the duty parent should wait until the next team arrives before leaving the stadium. If the next team does not appear within a reasonable time, say 15 minutes, turn out the lights, close the door and advise the Hall Co-ordinator Eddie via your day/venue WhatsApp group, or general member Lyn (M) 0429 166 411 so the hall can be locked. Training should be cancelled only in exceptional circumstances and the Hall Co-ordinator must be given a full week’s notice to permit re-allocation of times. Otherwise one of your team parents will have to attend to mind the hall during the vacant period. Cancellations occur mostly around long weekends and finals. ALWAYS advise Eddie if your team is not training; do not assume another team will be there. This is how the hall can be left unattended and breach Kangas contract with the school.
DURING FINALS
Please note, if a team does not make finals, Lyn should be notified immediately so that the team’s training time slot can be re-allocated to another team, ensuring the hall will not be left unattended at any time.
ELECTRONIC SCORING
The Team Manager needs to check in active players on the scoring system at the beginning of the game. Please adjust details as required, eg: singlet numbers. The Manager will need to add full details (full name, date of birth, address, singlet number) into the computer for new or fill in players. Please refer to the MEBA website for full operating instructions. Look for the computer screen symbol which says “overview of stadium scoring” on the right hand side of the screen.
If a player’s singlet number is incorrect in PlayHQ it can be manually changed on the iPad before each game. To permanently update a player’s singlet number in PlayHQ, email Kangas Registrar kangasregistrar@gmail.com
UNIFORM CLASHES
Kangas has yellow colour priority over all other teams in the competition. Therefore where a colour clash occurs, it is up to the opposition to change singlets.
Where two Kangas teams play each other, the team listed first on the fixture/score sheet is required to wear alternate tops. You should contact the Uniform Co-ordinator to arrange to borrow a set of alternate (black) singlets.
Email: kangasuniforms@gmail.com
You need to collect the alternate tops from players at the end of the game and wash them. They then need to be returned as soon as possible for use by Saturday and Week Night teams.
Please check your fixture to identify potential colour clashes and organize alternate tops in advance.
ARRANGE A SCORER
Arrange a scorer for each game. Encourage parents to share responsibility, if necessary rostering them for duty. A “How to score” sheet is available on the Kangas website or just ask someone to show you how to score. Refer to the MEBA website for electronic scoring instructions – click on the computer screen symbol that says “overview of scoring” on the right hand side. The MEBA usually run Scorers School each season, encourage any families who have never scored to attend.
If there is any dispute about a score, DO NOT allow the game to be closed off on the scoring device before calling the venue supervisor to sort it out on the spot. Watch scores closely, as the device is the final arbiter of the game. Any protest can be lodged through the Club Secretary, however reversal of score is relatively unheard of SO GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.
TEAM DIFFICULTIES
If a player leaves the team, a coach consistently fails to attend training or you have difficulties that cannot be resolved at a team level, please contact your Age Group Co-ordinator . We cannot help if we do not know there is an issue.
CLUB & TEAM COMMUNICATION
Distribute fixtures information and notices to team and coach. Club information will mostly be sent to you by email for you to forward to your team.
Club information is also available from the website. nunawadingkangas.com.au
MEBA COMMUNICATION
Routinely check for changes to fixtures, ladders, changes to rules and reasons for loss of points to avoid losing points in future. If there is a dispute over ladder positions, this should be referred to the Co-ordinator.
“MOST VALUABLE PLAYER” VOTING
Check with the coach to see if he/she will be completing MVP votes for the season. If no, roster families to vote. We now use an electronic voting system which can be accessed by mobile phone or computer. Our Trophy Co-ordinators will send Team Managers the link to the voting system at the start of the season and you can share it with the voting family each week. Votes are allocated to the 3 most valuable players on the court that game, as chosen by the voter (3 points for the most valuable player, then 2 for the next and 1 for the final player chosen that week). The votes are automatically tallied by our system.
To permanently change a player’s name or singlet number in a team’s MVP voting form, email Kangas Trophy Coordinators nuna.kangas.trophy@gmail.com
Please note: No voting applies for Under 8 teams, all Under 8 players receive a trophy at the end of the season. Under 16 teams will receive 1 trophy winner chosen by the Coach. Under 18 do not receive trophies.
PLAYER SUBSTITUTION & WALKOVERS
Arrange for the replacement of players if required. Four players are needed to start a game. If insufficient players turn up for a game, the team will incur a walkover fine of $140 from the Association which is to be paid via Teammo prior to the next game So......
· Make sure players let you know in advance if they are unavailable to play.
· Contact your respective Age Group Co-ordinator (Sat, Fri or Week Night) to obtain the names of eligible substitutes if required. Below are the general guidelines regarding substitutes.
RULES FOR THE SUBSTITUTION OF PLAYERS
In the event of occasional player shortages, additional players may be borrowed from other Kangas teams provided that the following conditions are satisfied:
· The player cannot be taken from the same age group as your team, but must come from a lower age group and usually a lower grade.
· The approval of the coach of the other Kangas team (the team which the player belongs to) must be obtained.
· The Co-ordinator must be contacted before substitution occurs.
. Never allow a player to play under some other player's name. The Basketball Victoria penalty for this is severe, typically 20 week to lifetime ban. Take the time to put all the fill in player's details in the system. The ban can apply to a coach, other officials and players.
· Once the grades are set for the season, the MEBA provides a table to explain substitutions – a copy of this will be on the MEBA website, Junior Domestic page once available (approx. Round 8).
WALKOVERS
If your team is unable to provide at least 4 players for a game your team will cause a walkover and incur a fine of $140 to the team. You should advise the appropriate Co-ordinator (Saturday, Friday or Week Night) as soon as you become aware of this situation to give the club an opportunity to obtain "fill-in" players to avoid the walkover fee.
Fines for Walkovers - The walkover fine is charged to the team via Teammo. The team sheet fee for the forfeited game will be rolled over to the next week but only once the walkover fine is paid. If you become aware that you will have difficulty fielding a team for a game, please contact your Age Group Co-ordinator as soon as possible for assistance with organising fill in players. They will make every effort to assist you to avoid a walkover and not incur a fine.
CONCUSSION GUIDELINES
Nunawading Kangas abides by the Basketball Australia Concussion Guidelines to ensure the health and wellbeing of our players. These guidelines are available at: http://www.basketball.net.au/about/policies/
PLAYER INJURIES DURING GAMES
If one of your players receives a significant injury during a game, this should be noted on the game computer (or scoresheet if manual scoring) by the referee. What constitutes a significant injury is a bit of a grey area, but if in doubt, have the referee record the injury. They may also be able to advise you if it needs to be recorded. This information can be used for later insurance claims. You may not realise, but registered players are covered by insurance through Basketball Victoria and the MEBA. If you would like more information about this insurance, please click here to view Basketball Victoria’s information.
PLAYERS INJURED PRIOR TO GAMES OR TRAINING
If a player is injured prior to their basketball game or training session, it is the responsibility of the player or their family to make their coach aware of the injury, limiting the potential for further injury. This is particularly important in the case of concussion.
RECORD OF GAMES PLAYED - QUALIFICATION FOR FINALS
There is a minimum number of games a player must play to qualify for finals. This will vary depending on the number of rounds in the season and MEBA will advise this number each season. Games played as a fill in do not count; ie only once registered will games count toward qualification. If a player is injured and does not play for a number of games he/she must obtain a doctor’s certificate that MUST be passed on to the Age Group Co-ordinator before round 16.
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR TEAM MANAGERS
